weakness wednesday: iridescent gold glitter. . . .

. . . . in a clear-ish base. apparently i didn't know how many i had. i have got to stop buying the same polishes over and over again.

sunlight

with flash (to show the glitter~!)

sinful pinky glitter is the first of this particular genre (iridescent gold glitter) that i got my hands on. i bought this a couple of years ago, and really love it. it looks like it would go on pink, but the base is really really sheer. perfect for layering. however, the newer version of pinky glitter is a much darker hot pink. not my thing. but if you're desperate for something of similar ilk, confetti confetti pink ($2 at cvs stores) looks almost identical to this older version, at least in the bottle.

orly shining star contains the smallest glitter particles of the group. i believe all of the glitter is the same. click here to see what it looks like layered.

i just picked up this new nina ultra pro in holographic topcoat last week at sally's. the whole line has been updated, and this one immediately caught my eye. it was in my cart and paid for before i could do anything to stop it lol. now the name is quite misleading because it's not really holographic. i do see tiny, tiny gold holographic specks, but mostly it contains the round iridescent glitter that i love so much.

next up is a beautiful unnamed polish from the japanese 100 yen store. sigh. i love japanese polishes so much. actually i love japanese everything so much. . . . anyway, the cap on this bottle says ac-ned-37. i think the brand is ac, the line is called nail enamel d (ned), and this is shade number 37. let's just call it ned 37, shall we? as much as i love ned 37, it looks nearly identical on the nail as pinky glitter and holographic topcoat. the green base just should be ignored.

mattese elite je t'aime is definitely my favorite. it has the chunkiest iridescent glitter, with some added larger holographic silver hexes. click here to see it in action. now i have some bad news about this polish: apparently, mattese elite is revamping their entire line of polishes, so je t'aime is being discontinued. however, they are still available here on the ricky's website for at the clearance price of $2.99. if you want it, you need to jump on that quick! i'm considering buying a back-up bottle, since i've never seen else anything quite like it. . . .

weakness wednesday: top 10 sinfuls

weakness wednesday: neutrals with gold shimmer

just got home from memphis! it's so nice being in my own house, even if my "house" is a cluttered apartment that's not nearly as nice as the hotel i was just at. oh well, home is home, right?

for today's weakness wednesday, i thought i'd show you some neutral polishes of mine that are rather questionable with my skin tone. however, they are pretty, edgy shades and have lots of gold shimmer in them, which i think makes them keepers (well, most of them).

i bought china glaze golden spurs at publix (a grocery store), of all places. i've had it for a couple of years, and i only ever seem to wear it around thanksgiving. weird. it just seems very reminiscent of pumpkin pie to me. i think it's a little too dark for me, but again, gold shimmer.

you can see my swatches of china glaze classic camel here. it's definitely the weirdest and the edgiest of all 4 polishes in this post. i've been considering buy china glaze's new shade kalahari kiss, but swatches online make it look almost exactly like classic camel, without the shimmer. anyone wanna do a comparison post for me? :)

sally hansen diamond strength 3k or more! is a lot prettier in person than in my pics (sorry). it's a very pretty tan-colored base jam-packed with chunky gold shimmer. i've only worn this once, but i'm itching to wear it again. it's definitely my favorite of these 4 shades. and the most shimmery, go figure. (side note: don't you love the faceted shape of the new bottles? so pretty!)

zoya jules is 1 of the only 2 zoya polishes i own. i bought it during a zoya promo because of scrangie's amazing swatch of it, but then was disappointed by how it looked on my actual fingers. on me it just looks really dull and lifeless and almost gray. strange. i'm trying to decide if i want to keep it, or replace it with something like china glaze fast track instead. anyone want to trade? :)

weakness wednesday: holo glitter topcoats

hello new followers! :) happy 4th of july, if you're into that sort of thing. in other words, if you're american. if you're not very american (like me), then i hope you do something fun today anyway. i'm about to head to a friend's house and watch all 3 "back to the future" movies in a row (back-to-back back to the future?). sweet.

holographic glitter is festive enough for a holiday, right? good, because i have some.

china glaze fairy dust is pretty much a polish that every one owns or should own. it leaves a sparse covering of super tiny rainbow-colored particles. it looks good over essentially any polish. you can't build it up on its own though.

claire's glitter top coat is the chunkiest and densest holo glitter out of all of these. i've built this up to opacity in 3 coats before and it looks awesome. super gritty, but awesome. you can see in the pic that it forms linear holo lines in the bottle, which also shows up on the nail. love it. i don't think this one is available at claire's anymore, but l.a. colors star light is very similar (star light is currently on sale for $1.50 at cherry culture).

i made this franken with this nail art glitter that i bought at sally's called silver rush. it's super holo, but the particles end up bumpy and grainy on the nail. it does better with several coats of top coat though.

here's wet 'n wild wild shine kaleidoscope again. i flippin love this topper. kaleidoscope consists of several different sizes of super-holo chunky glitter. best of all, the biggest glitters are round, which looks so cool with the small specks of holo glitter. like fairy dust, you can't build this one up, but it looks amazing over pretty much any shade. click here to see what it looks like on the nail.

weakness wednesday: periwinkle

sunlight

with flash to show the shimmer~!

i probably shouldn't have bought sinful morning star. as you can see, it looks a lot like other periwinkles i already had. but it looked so pretty at the store, i couldn't resist. i haven't even worn it yet. i'm thinking i may not and give to someone who appreciates pretty polish.

i'm wearing l.a. girl color addict extreme on my toes right now. it looks like a medium periwinkle shade with gold shimmer in the bottle, but when i applied it, the gold shimmer showed up very strongly and made it look kind of duochrome. really pretty.

another petites polish- petites color fever periwinkle. this is a little darker and dustier than the rest of the periwinkles. i love this shade. it dries super shiny and has the best formula ever. it looks like i'm really loving petites polishes these days.

i've shown you china glaze secret peri-wink-le before in my cloud gradient mani. this is the first periwinkle and the first china glaze i ever bought. and i think it's taken me owning it for this long (at least 2 years) to finally get the name! it's from the secret agent collection, right? so the secret agent is winking because she has a secret. secret peri-wink-le. wow, that took me long enough, huh?

i bought pure ice in the mood because of the really pretty silvery flakies in it. however, similar to petites epic!, it's also ridiculously sheer. i have yet to try it layered over another polish, but i'm starting to get the idea from this post that i have plenty that would work. . . .

sinful zeus. ah yes, the polish that started the blog. this one is a winner. seriously one of my favorite sinfuls ever. that prominent pink shimmer just kills me it's so pretty. click here to see my zeus mani.

i guess that's it! note to self: no more periwinkles!!

weakness wednesday: gold glitter topcoats

gold is my second favorite color, right after pale green (if you haven't noticed). combine that with the fact that i have a inexplicable draw to layering polishes, and you see why i have lots of gold topcoats. today i'm only showing you gold glittery topcoats in a clear base. i have more in a milky white base that will have to wait for another day :P.

love & beauty gold is a very nondescript name, but also a beautiful polish. it has small champagne-colored square-shaped glitter in a clear base.

this sally girl polish is unnamed, but let's agree to call it "gold medallions," ok? great. "gold medallions" is full of small-ish sized yellow gold hexes and little tiny hexes of the same color. this is my 2nd bottle of "gold medallions," and i think my first glittery polish purchase ever. i know.

nyx girls gilded glitter (whew, that's a lot of "g"s) has gorgeous golden flakies in an almost-clear base. the base is a little yellow, so i try to layer this one over medium or bright shades.

i've shown you a picture of petites universe before, but no swatches yet (sorry). when i first spotted it at rite aid (during my crazy $30 haul), i thought it looked like a pretty golden shimmer with gold flakies in it. but when i tested it out at home, the base is super sheer, which makes it more like a gold flaky topcoat. awesome. yes, i already have nyx girls gilded glitter, but universe's base is sheerer, which makes it perfect for layering over those pastel shades that i couldn't with gilded glitter. perfect! and it was just $2!

the last polish in the polish cart used to be sinful all about you, i just put it in an old nyc bottle and mixed in some clear topcoat. all about you makes a pretty flaky layering polish too, but the gold is much darker and warmer than i prefer. it's almost looks rusty. . . . so i haven't used it very much.

weakness wednesday: cobalt blue

it's been very interesting looking through my nail polish collection and gathering similar ones into groups. sometimes i don't even realize that i have several of like color until i organize them together. like with today's grouping. i didn't even know that i liked cobalt blue so much!

sunlight- pretty color-accurate

with flash- not color-accurate

i included the 2nd shot with the flash so you could see the shimmer in several of them. do you see that pink shimmer in the nyc bottle??

revlon top speed royal
petites epic! (swatches of this one coming up this week! spoiler alert: it has flakies!)
sinful colors neptune
sally hansen xtreme wear pacific blue (one of my top 10, which also will be featured this week!)
franken (made with pacific blue, royal, and aisle be there for lots of pink shimmer!)

weakness wednesday: peach shimmers

welcome to this week's edition of weakness wednesday (that was a lot of "w"s in one sentence). today i'd like to showcase my love for peach shimmers. yes, i know that description sounds like a granny color, but i promise they're much prettier than that.

sunlight- you can't see all of the shimmer going on, but it is color-accurate

flash- now you can see the shimmer

the polish on top is winwax 19, which is from a japanese 100 yen store. in real life, it sort of looks like a peach version of china glaze white cap. it ended up being a lot sheerer than i expected, but it makes a killer layering polish. asian cosmetics and polishes are the best. . . . agreed? agreed.

the most orange-leaning of all of the polishes is a franken i made recently. i was trying to recreate this polish, and i think i got pretty close.

sally hansen diamond strength brilliant blush is from the old diamond strength line, and i bought this for almost nothing when it was being discontinued. i bought it because it reminded me of essie kisses & bises, which is an awesome layering effect. brilliant blush looks great over lots of base colors, and also adds gorgeous pink shimmer to any frankening concoction. i believe there's a repackaged version of this shade in the new sally hansen diamond strength line (one of my favorites!).

petites color fever peach blush is probably my favorite of the bunch. yes, peach blush is probably the most boring name ever, but it's ok because it's gorgeous. i bought this last week during the rite aid nail extravaganza promotion they were running. more about that later.

revlon peach smoothie is a polish i drooled over for a long time before finally finding it at a nearby walmart. it has beautiful little peach flecks in it, but unfortunately, it's really hard to apply. it's kind of gluey, streaky, and sheer, which is a bad combination. it needs at least 3 carefully applied coats to be opaque. oh yeah, and it smells nauseatingly like peach. i might try layering one coat over american apparel summer peach, and see how that works out. that actually sounds pretty promising. . . .

weakness wednesday: purple shimmers

specifically purples with gold or copper shimmer. i can't get enough of them. here's proof:

pure ice purple reign
l.a. girl color addict habit
spoiled are mermaids real?
zoya faye
nicole by opi purple yourself together

i just think purple goes so great with gold and copper. such a beautiful combination. manicures featuring these colors coming up in the near future!

weakness wednesday: pale green cremes

what good is a blog named polish cart if you don't get to see a cute miniature shopping cart full of polishes?

i can't be the only person who buys the same polishes over and over again, right? if you're drawn to something, you're drawn to something, and you can't really help it. i feel that way about any kind of pale green shade (today i'm just showing you my pale green cremes. . . . there will be a shopping cart full of pale green shimmers some other day). unlike a lot of nail polish enthusiasts, though, i try not to buy a polish if it looks like one i already own. i never buy a shade just for the purposes of finding a dupe in my stash. i want to have a nice variety of polishes, not just a huge collection.

the polishes in the cart are:

borghese rapido menta (yes, this has some shimmer. but i would call it subtle shimmer, so i'm sticking it in pale green creme cart. deal with it.).
sinful colors olympia
love & beauty cucumber melon is actually cucumber melon-scented. and nauseatingly so. but i love the color so i use it anyway. (if i were naming this shade, i would call it "honeydew honey do", because this was the color everything was in my wedding.).
sally hansen diamond strength garter toss
sally hansen xtreme wear mint sorbet is one of my top 10 favorites! it's the perfect cross between mint green and honeydew. love. and this is the best formula for a mint green i've ever used. i used to own revlon minted, which was pretty much the same color, but the formula was streaky, gluey, and HORRENDOUS.

that may not seem like a lot of pale green shades, but i pretty much have to talk myself out of buying one every time i see one at the store. i've almost purchased opi gargantuan green grape (another stupid name) at least fourteen times. . . . pale green is my favorite color, after all.

and now i'm wanting this bright pastel green from nabi. darn it. and twiggie.
