these are the nails i sported to my grandfather's funeral today. i had a hard time deciding what was "appropriate" enough for a funeral, but not boring to look at all weekend. i tried my new essence polish,
grey-t to be here, a grey creme with beautiful pink shimmer. however, after i finished painting and applied top coat, i couldn't see the pink shimmer anymore! what?? so i added a layer of l.a. girl fruity
sparkling peach (click
here for a bottle shot) to bring out the pink. which of course, my camera sucks at capturing.

see the blurry pink shimmer on my index finger?? |
ok, maybe this will show the pink better-
the irony of the name of this polish is not lost on me. of course it wasn't "grey-t to be here" at a funeral. but overall, it was a good day i got to spend with my family. i played violin and sang
this song with my husband during the ceremony, and thought it was just perfect for a funeral.
i'm not sure my nails were just perfect, though. i think i could've gotten away with a slightly crazier manicure. i spotted a bright teal shimmer on my cousin's nails! ah, well. better safe than offensive.
Although the name may be ironic, the mani looks great and just the right thing! The grey for mourning, very respectful, but the pink for the life and love that you and your family bring!
ReplyDeleteAw, I like that! That's a good way to think about it :)
DeleteSo sorry for the reason you had to go more somber with your nails, but it sounds like your family was comforted by spending the time together, remembering someone who was very much loved.
ReplyDeleteAs for your nails, they're lovely (and definitely funeral-appropriate)--such fabulous pairing to bring out the shimmer! It's still subtle but so totally gorgeous. It even looks like soft flakies in the sunlight!
Thanks so much, Elizabeth. It was definitely nice to be together with family.
DeleteThanks! Yeah, the polish on top (Sparkling Peach) has tiny gold and pink flakies in it. It's one of my favorite layering polishes!
Too bad the shimmer disappeared on you! It looks lovely though with the extra topper.
ReplyDeleteI am sorry for your loss, hopefully the funeral was a good way to say your goodbye's.
I know! It looked so gorgeous in the bottle :S.
DeleteThank you so much. It was. And I'm at peace with the whole situation because he lived a long, full life and I know he's not sick or in pain anymore.
I'm so sorry for your loss. How wonderful that you were able to play music with your husband to honor your grandfather. I think your nails look lovely. Maybe as a pick-me-up you can pick a crazy fun color or some wild stamps for your next mani!
ReplyDeleteThank you so much!
DeleteYeah, when I get home I'm definitely picking something a little more "me" :P.
