rainbow's end

hello new followers!

well, i'm on the road again this week. and as usual, i'm wearing something holographic :).

3 coats nic's sticks by opi rainbow's end

so this is nic's sticks by opi rainbow's end- one of those polishes whose online swatches i drooled over for a long time before i actually purchased it. other swatches i've seen (and my first three pictures) make it look like a champagne holographic, which is pretty much why i bought it. and in direct sunlight and flash photography, it is. but more often, it looks like the last pic- a beige/gray polish with some subtle rainbow effect. don't get me wrong, it's beautiful in the right lighting conditions. but i guess i don't love it as much as i thought i would.

not to mention the ridiculous contraption it's housed in. this pen applicator is supposed to be "polish-on-the-go" easy, but i felt like i had to wrestle with the stupid thing to get it on my nails in a decent fashion. it was hard to get enough polish to the end of the scratchy brush, which meant that i had tons of drag in my application. i had to do three very frustrating coats, and i still had visible spots where the brush had dragged. you can't really see it in the pics because, well, sometimes cameras lie. but trust me, it's there.

one interesting thing to note is that i tried a new top coat over rainbow's end. the holo queen (and other bloggers) recommend sally hansen insta-dri in clearly quick for holos, and it didn't dull the rainbow at all! it does look very strange when you first apply it, though, because the polish changes color and looks really dull and flat. but as the top coat dries, your normal polish returns. weird, huh?

all in all, i think rainbow's end is really pretty- but not worth the crazy effort, the draggy application, or the hunt to find the now discontinued shade online. i'm continuing my search for the perfect nude holo.

  1. I've seen you mention Color Club's Love 'em Leave' em before, you should definitely give it a try! I just got it and it's so pretty, I used it on a mani for my mom and she loved it, subtle but with a holo punch! The holo effect is more subtle than other brands though. I just saw it on eBay for $2.99 with free shipping! :)

    1. Also I should mention the application was a breeze, thin but very easy to control! It hardly even needed the second coat :)
